Have you ever heard of mastoiditis? Well, I hadn't until today. On Tuesday evening, I had taken Sarah to the ER. She had been fussy for a couple of days....could have been teething....She's been congested...a cold.... Well, Tuesday throughout the day, I had noticed that one ear stuck out more than the other. I had a nice conversation with God, really myself, about how He had made her and I would accept it. I couldn't figure out how I had not noticed it until now. (I just know that she is a girl and long hair would hide it!!) As we were bathing and getting the kids ready for bed, I was nursing her before putting her down. I noticed that behind the left ear that was sticking out, it was swollen and really red. I took her to the ER, because it was not something that I had every seen before. As I am waiting to get seen, satan decided to throw thoughts my way about being a bad parent and how CPS would be called. I finally told him to stop and asked God to give me a peace that I was doing what was right. Once I was seen, she had double ear infections. But, the NP had never seen anything like her ear. So, we left with her on amoxicillian.
I couldn't get into the peditrician until this morning. After explaining how her ear did look (the antibiotics are working), his jaw hit the ground. He said it was mastioditis, an infection in and of the bone behind the ear. It was very serious and could result in death. There are not many cases. So, he contacted an ENT doc and they decided not to do a CT scan right now. Her age and how well she is responding to the antibiotics helped with that decision. But, the did give her stronger antiobiotics and we go back Monday. Let's just say that God is watching over us. I am so thankful He is!!
We still have lots of questions. Our doctor said that she should have been hospitalized and immediately had tubes put in her ears. We will see if the tubes are still necessary to avoid this in the future. But, I just needed to share how great our God is!!! He never let me rest until she was on antibiotics!! Praise be to Him who is so faithful to us all!!!
